Investment Management at TapestryFP

Terms like “investment management” get thrown around the financial services world regularly but are rarely defined explicitly. As a consumer myself, I’ve always hated that because then there’s no good way to hold someone accountable for what they say they are going to do for the price I pay.

So, in the spirit of making investment management crystal clear, here is a non-exhaustive list of the activities we perform as part of our investment management of your portfolio at TapestryFP:

  • Researching, analyzing, and performing ongoing due diligence on funds and investments

  • Designing a customized asset mix that fits your specific goals, time horizon, and risk tolerance

  • Determining the right type and number of accounts you need

  • Strategically locating the right investments in the right accounts for maximum tax efficiency

  • Implementing the portfolio and executing trades efficiently

  • Coordinating rollovers, transfers, and conversions to get your money into the proper accounts

  • Ongoing portfolio monitoring and periodic rebalancing to keep your allocation on target

  • Managing cash levels, making sure you don’t have cash sitting idle or not enough to cover upcoming expenses

  • Executing proactive tax strategies (tax-loss/tax-gain harvesting, withdrawal order of operation, specific lot identification for sales or gifts, Roth conversion tax source, etc.)

  • Addressing concentrated positions

  • Simplifying portfolios with unnecessary complexity or too many holdings

  • Watching for investments to mature and reinvesting the proceeds according to plan

  • Continuously monitoring the portfolio for risk, performance, and drift from your target allocation

  • Providing regular performance reporting and portfolio reviews

  • Behavioral finance coaching to help you overcome your investment biases and stay disciplined through market volatility

We explicitly exclude stock-picking, frequent trading, or trying to time the market.

All of this work is guided by the Investment Policy Statement we create together.

These are all the same things we do in our own personal investment portfolios. When you choose us for investment management, you're delegating the responsibility to us. And we take that responsibility with the utmost seriousness because we know how much trust it takes to let go of your money, and how much it can mean to your long-term financial strength.

If you think something important is missing from this list, please feel free to email us. We’re always happy to hear your thoughts and clarify.
